Most attorneys and law firms are not authorized to sponsor the J-1 visa and must work with an authorized sponsor like AIPT in order to assist their clients who are interested in this visa. Attorneys refer clients to AIPT for our experience, knowledge, and ability to sponsor individuals in the trainee and summer work/travel categories of the J-1 visa.
Some attorneys refer to their clients to AIPT and then remove themselves from the relationship and some attorneys want to be involved throughout the process. AIPT is happy to assist in either scenario. Because AIPT is a non-profit, we are unable to offer any "finder's fees" for programs referred to AIPT.
AIPT respects the relationship that attorneys have with their clients and if attorneys request to be a part of the relationship, AIPT will copy attorneys on all correspondence before sponsorship approval. Upon request, AIPT will provide attorneys a copy of the applicant’s pre-departure orientation packet and a data copy of the DS-2019 form, which shows that a sponsoring organization has agreed to sponsor an individual on the J-1 visa. However, AIPT is required by the U.S. Department of State to have direct contact with the host employer and exchange visitor throughout the application period and program.
Our Business Development team is trained and available to discuss potential cases, review proposed training plans and resumes or CVs, and to provide feedback to determine if AIPT may be able to sponsor the individual and proposed training plan.
