AIPT is designated by the U.S. Department of State to sponsor six categories of the J-1 visa: trainee, intern, summer work & travel, teacher, camp counselor and Korea WEST. Through the J-1 visa teacher category, qualified international candidates are given the opportunity to travel to the United States where they will be placed in a teaching position with an accredited primary or secondary school for up to 3 years.

Host Employer Requirements
A teacher is an international candidate who:
meets the qualifications for teaching in primary or secondary schools in his/her country of nationality or last legal residence
has a minimum of 3 years of teaching or related professional experience
satisfies the teaching standards of the U.S. state in which he/she will teach
seeks to come to the United States for the purpose of full-time teaching in a primary or secondary accredited school AND
is of good reputation and character
AIPT primarily sponsors teaching programs in private schools throughout the United States. There may be the opportunity to teach in a public school, but this will be decided on a case-by-case basis. The duration of each teaching program will be determined by the hosting school; however, the program cannot exceed 3 years.
School: The school must be an accredited primary or secondary school offering a position in grades Kindergarten through 12 only.
Written Offer: The primary or secondary school in the United States must make a formal, written offer to the international candidate regarding the teaching position
Salary: The U.S. school must pay the international candidate a salary that is comparable to what an American teacher with the same qualifications would be paid
